Bark Beetle Vision
human vision Human eyes have 3 color receptors (red, blue, and green) with relatively high resolution so a pine log pile and forest look like the picture at left (Sjöbö, Sweden).
blue-green vision Bark beetles have only 2 color receptors sensitive to blue and green, so if they had human resolution then a log pile and forest could look like the picture at left.
bark beetle vision However, bark beetles have only about 100 to 250 ommatidia which undoubtedly limits the resolution of an image so that a log pile and surrounding forest could look similar to the picture above. This is purely conjecture since no one has ever seen the world through a bark beetle's eyes.
