A vertical parent gallery of Tomicus piniperda in Scots pine long after all
beetles have emerged. The galleries of the larvae are seen as perpendicular scourings of the xylem (the
phloem has become brown powder and is about gone). Some intact bark (with green lichens) is present at the
left of photo.
